Characteristics of Defense Mechanisms used by MMPI-2 profile types of Physically Disabled Women

Abstract

|
This study investigated the characteristics of the defense mechanisms used by disabled women according to subgroups derived from MMPI-2 cluster analysis. As a result of cluster analysis of MMPI-2 scales, collective analysis resulted in two sub-types. Collective type Ⅰ was F out of the validity scales increasing, where D and Si ouof the clinical scales increased more than 60 points. Collective type Ⅱ was out of the validity scales and out of the clinical scales still meeting the range of normal profile. According to the analysis of the defense mechanisms by MMPI-2 types, collective type Ⅰ mostly applied “evasion" from immature defenses, the following Neurotic defenses mechanisms, mature stages of "sublimation" while collective type II mostly applied “anticipation" from mature defenses the following “evasion" from immature defenses ”reaction“ formation from neurotic defenses mechanisms. Finally, we discussed the implications and limitations of this study and provide suggestions for future studies.
